We welcome all children, including those with additional needs, into our school, and are proud of the progress children with additional needs make during their time with us.
All children at Chatham Nursery School follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and, if appropriate, are given further support through small group work and intervention. We are committed to narrowing the attainment gap between SEND and non-SEND students.
Attendance is vitally important to enable children to achieve their full potential and we work alongside parents to ensure their child is able to attend school regardless of any additional need. We are passionate about supporting parents when their children have additional needs and we work closely with the children’s centre, signposting families to classes and support groups.
We ensure our children are able to access our curriculum regardless of need by creating play plans that highlight strategies to support children to access the curriculum (indoor and outdoor provision, co-curricular activities, adult led activities, co-curricular experiences, trips & visitors)
Staff are trained in identifying and working with children with additional needs, delivering intensive interactions including bucket therapy.
Our Special Educational Needs & Disability co-ordinators (SENCO) are Mrs Atkinson and Mrs Rodick.
Our Governor with responsibility for SEND is Mary Jackson.
If you have any concerns regarding your child, please speak to Mrs Atkinson or Mrs Rodick who will be happy to make an appointment with you.
