The Importance Of Reading Together
At Chatham, we offer a library for both adults and children. Children are encouraged to pick a book to take home and share with an adult. After enjoying it, they can return it and choose another one. Parents are welcome to change books with their child as often as they like. If a parent can’t do this, the child’s key person will help them choose a new book once a week.
Reading aloud to children is one of the best ways to support their future success in reading. It’s never too early to start, and we all want our children to love reading.
Enjoying stories from a young age helps children develop a love for books and become lifelong readers. Research shows that people who read for pleasure are often more successful in life.
Children may want to hear the same story repeatedly, which helps them learn and eventually tell the story themselves. Young children enjoy many types of books—comics, picture books, family photo albums, lift-the-flap books, and factual books about their favorite topics.

Family Book Club
Family book club runs throughout the year in blocks of 4 weeks. Families are welcomed in after school to join in activities based around a book of theme. We share a snack and the children get to take home a book at the end of the block.
